My Optimal Health

Written by vjpudelski on March 19, 2016

In this week’s episode of the Unstoppable Course we focused on Optimal Health. What does optimal health look like? Can it be achieved? The truth of the matter is that optimal health is different each of us. We each have our own vision of what optimal health will look like. In this post I will talk about mine.

So, my optimal health is broken up into a few different things. Here I have listed a couple items and what I need to do to achieve optimal health in each of these areas.

Positive Thinking
In many cases I am horrible at seeing the bright side or viewing things without doubts and reservations. I see what can go wrong, what is wrong and what will never be. I haunt myself in my own thoughts of why I or loved ones shouldn’t do something or go somewhere. I’m that guy in line of the new roller coaster pointing out all the things that can go wrong only I don’t vocalize my thoughts. That’s my only saving grace is no one else knows my thoughts as I keep them to myself so those who have achieved positive, optimistic thinking can continue to do so.

To achieve my optimal health I need to stop focusing on why not and focus on the why you should. I need to have a more positive outlook. To do this I need to see the possibilities like I do when presented with a programming or logic problem. In those cases I see so many possibilities.

Emotional Stability
I have a hard time vocalizing my feelings and expressing them. I tend to hide behind a great facade to how I am really feeling. I hold feelings in and try to ignore them.

I need to find ways to express myself and get these feelings out. I have started to be able to do this in my running. I have spouts of running harder than I normally ever would. I exhaust myself to a point where I feel like I have that outlet. It certainly helps matters. I also think I need to find a friend or someone I can confide in as sometimes it is important to talk it out as well.

Problem Solving and Critical Thinking
I love logic puzzles, math problems, programming issues, and anything that challenge the collective knowledge that I have attained.

In my optimal health this skill set will be tested on a regular basis. I will work through programming problems, mathematical books and other things on a regular basis. I have a collection of projects and math books to go through and just need to give myself the set amount of time each week to do them.

Physical Health
Some may see me and think I am well on my way to physical fitness. I look at myself with an extremely critical eye. I see weak arms, core and have a sore lower back.

To obtain my optimal health I need to work on my core. I need to start doing more core workouts such as crunches, twists and anything else that will help. I also need to do my shoulder workouts and throw on a more regular basis. Between this and continuing to run on a regular basis I think I can obtain a great sense of fitness.

Nutrition
I eat awfully and especially have a habit of eating a lot of junk food. I eat a lot of cookies, drink a lot of tea, like my ice creme from time to time and keep a distance from our green friends.

I need to make it a point to eat more salads, less fried foods. I need to stay away from junk food more and drink more water and just in general be conscious of what I am putting into my body.

THE END GOAL
My goal is to feel happy, be confident, upbeat and an example to others of the good life they can live and help them achieve it by sharing my stories and advice. I believe my optimal health will have me waking up energized and ready to attack the day. The afternoon will bring a thirst for new challenges and critical thinking. The night will bring reflection and gratitude for another day with my family. My reflection will focus on what I can continue to do better and how far I have come. I think in optimal health it is important to continue to grow as an individual and while accepting and celebrating success, continuing to strive for more.
